What are tax codes and what do they mean?
A tax code is a string of letters and numbers that tells HMRC how much tax you should be paying. The numbers refer to your Personal Allowance (divided by 10) while the L just means that there are no special circumstances to consider.

How does my tax code affect my pay?
Your tax code affects your pay as it determines if you have any allowance for tax and if so how much.

What documents do I receive at the end of the tax year?
If you are employed you will either receive a P45 or P60 this will depend on if you were still an active employee at the end of the tax year you would then have a P60 or if you left before you would have a P45 in replace.

If you are self employed you will receive a payment summary which shows the individual weeks and you calculations for each period and also a Statement of earnings which summarises your earnings, pay and tax for that period.
